The way they talk about non jws ie " worldly" people as ALL being selfish greedy wicked, depraved sex maniacal lying filth from the platform, and I remember once thinking, that's simply not true! That jws are so much better than non jws ie the sheer stereotyping of anyone not jw. Another thing that bugged me hugely even when I was in was how they disparaged uni education and how they looked at me as being fundamentally faulty or bad for 1) being a uni student; and, 2) having a degree. And how they stereotype educated people as only getting education so they can "use big words to make the rest of us feel dumb".

Most Irritating Thing About The Jw's
by integ infor me it is the smugness.
it's their inability and refusal to admit they are wrong....ever...even in the face of irrefutable evidence.
isn't pride a sin?

Request stories on JW mental health issues
by optimusprime ini am just curious as to how much of a problem mental illness is among jws.
i would like to hear what others have to say regarding their own experiences in this matter.
specifically, i want to know how these individuals were handled in the congregation and whether or not being a jw contributed to the effects on mental illness.. .

Like Frankie said, bit of both. My own experience with my own chronic depression is that. Can't say being a jw caused it, but it sure exacerbated it. More later. Off to bed now. Got a good one about the COBE who's a good egg but suffering tremendously from mental disorders.

"The Watchtower's Achilles' Heel"
by Doug Mason inif reasoning with a jehovahs witness on the watchtower societys interpretations of the kingdom of god, parousia, the cross, blood, and so on is unlikely to break the wtss mental stranglehold, what then is its achilles heel?.

Wow great paper. May I ask, what is your academic background? Obviously you have one because no window washer could put together such a good scholarly discussion paper.

Do You Still Wear "Meeting" Clothes?
by minimus ini have dozens of suits.
i still buy them .
i wear ties sometimes too.

Even before I was a jw I had conservative tastes so ive kept all my meeting stuff and now wear it to work. I haven't had to buy work clothes in ages because of the big store of nice skirts n blouses. I have to dress modest for my work (teacher) and it was great to have a ready made wardrobe when I left jws. My hubby doesn't wear his suits anymore because he has no occasion to, though if we go to a nice restaurant or something he'll wear one of his jw dress shirts (never the white ones lol) with jeans. Looks great with his big bushy beard lol.

Just found out I have fading or leaving JDubs around the corner
by confusedandalone inthis is weird, but yesterday my wife was driving to different houses in the neighborhood trying to find out who was going to have candy out for the kids on halloween.
the properties are fairly large and they all have gates so she didn't want to walk this evening in the dark aimlessly with our kids for our first halloween together.
anyway she gets to one of our neighbors has a good convo and she says don't bother asking the neighbors they don't celebrate halloween.

You seem to attract faders and waverers, like that woman who used to be in bethel. You and your wife must put out good vibes.

Dead right! I know more about what goes on in the org as an apostate than I ever did as a good jw.

Holy spirit handouts, and the magical prayers only the Witnesses get answered.
by msconcerned injehovah, please allow our house to sell so we can go preach in another country where the need is great.. jehovah please help me get that job where i dont have to work shiftwork anymore and i can make all the meetings.. jehovah we need $200 so we can go to the convention, please look after us.. ah yes, the prayers of the faithful one.
how we look at these and feel our hearts swell with love for our god.
many of us at one time or another have asked for things such as these.

Lol I think that would go for a lot of people! I only auxed twice when I had nothing else to do and I didn't mind the galivanting and socialising, but talking to actual house holders whether aux or not always sucked and I always wished they weren't home. You're supposed to pray for spirit to help you talk to people but I never got given it either. Yet people thought I did pretty well...guess it goes to show that it doesn't take much to look holy.

That used to be me too, Bugbear, and no doubt a lot of others on this board. Something got through the chink in the armour though.
What about jws with a sense of entitlement? Like thinking they should be able to get a good job, good house or good wife without working for any of it?

Facts are neither positive nor negative. They just are. - Julia Orwell, in rebuttal to a jw accusing me of posting 'negative' facts about the org.
